NORAM, Silver Star, BC, Canada (9-11 Mar 07)

3 members of the British Disabled Ski Team travelled from there training venue of Kimberley, BC (Canada) across the Kootenay mountains to Silver Star, BC for the British Columbia Provincial Nationals and NORAM Race (9-11 March).

Sean Rose
GS Day 1 – Bronze
GS Day 2 – Bronze

Joe Willoughby
GS Day 1 – Silver
GS Day 2 – Gold
Slalom Day 3 – Gold

Tim Farr
GS Day 1 – 5th

A competitive field, good racing, a great ski hill, spring conditions made for some exciting times with Sean Rose just getting pipped for 2nd place by 0.01seconds on the first day in the Giant Slalom race (seated men’s category). Joe Willoughby now back on form following her earlier season’s wrist injury took a great Silver in her class (seated women) with a steady run and Tim Farr, a new member of the Development squad, with his best result to date finishing a solid 5th (seated men).

On the 2nd day the weather changed dramatically and the course was solid making the going tough. Sean crashed out in the 1st race, but got up to finish and secure a 2nd run, a much improved performance and combined time gave him the Bronze medal once again.

Joe went one better than yesterday and took her first Gold medal win in her class with 2 solid runs. Tim made mistakes in his first run, but improved to take 6th place.

Slalom day was horrendous for everyone. It rained all day, No visibility and a tough course, half the field failed to finish the 1st run, Sean one of them running too fast into the flush section of the course and crashing out while on a charge. Joe held her nerve completing the two difficult runs and taking her 2nd Gold medal of the competition. Tim was disappointed missing a gate in the 1st run and disqualified.

Tim and Joe return to Kimberley, BC to train and get ready for the Canadian Nationals held there 20-23rd March. Sean returns to Europe with a number of his ski team buddies including Russel Docker for the British Land Championships held in Meribel, France (26th-30th Mar) racing alongside the able bodied British National Team.
