NORAM, Huntsman Cup , Park City, Utah, USA (5-7 Jan 07)

Sean Rose (training in Kimberley, BC) and Liz Miller (training in Winter Park, CO) flew the flag for Great Britain at Park City’s Huntsman Cup in Utah, 5-7th Jan 07.

Day 1 - GS
Liz opened by posting the 2nd best time in the female standing class in her first run of the day skiing at the top of her game and impressing the other skiers. Sean an impressive 4th after the first run but right up there in contention with the top seated skiers. Unfortunately a high speed fall in the 2nd run took Liz out of the competition. She injured her good leg and was taken to hospital for xrays and a check up, before being released later luckily with no broken bones but feeling pretty sore! Sean carried on from his first run posting another time right up there with the best and confirmed a 4th place (only 0.6 seconds off 2nd place) and improving his FIS standings.

Day 2 - GS
The best start again for Sean in the first run posting a 4th place again but within striking distance of those ahead. The second run was his best run to date and showed his marked improvement on last years results by placing 2nd, which gave him an overall result of 2nd place making up 2 places on the 1st run. Sean said, ‘I can’t believe this result, these guys were putting 2-3 seconds on me last year! The TASS 2012 funding has allowed me to travel, train harder and our our extended pre season coaching sessions with Jane (Team Coach) in Austria have paid off this year!’

Day 3 - Slalom
An important day for Sean as he needed a good result to reduce his FIS points to be able to compete in Slalom World Cup races at Aspen and Kimberley over the next few weeks. A very rocky start to the day as the pressure told and a too steady approach to the first run left him 6 seconds off the lead and chances slipping fast of gaining the much needed points. A change of approach and mind set for the second run and things changed? He had a stormer of a run and made up time and a number of places to give him 4th on the day. The position and time enough to reduce his FIS points to below 100 (71) and allow him now to compete in all events at World Cups this year!
