BDST Season 2006/07

British Land National Ski Championship 2007

The end of March saw a gathering of both disabled and abled-bodied racers at the annual championships held in Meribel, France. An opportunity for the BDST to showcase the progress made in the world of disabled alpine racing in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses, The Earl and Countess of Wessex. Click here for details

Hartford Disabled Championship, Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, USA (21-23 Mar 07)

A finally for Liz Miller too at the US Nationals in Waterville Valley where having come back from earlier season injury produced solid performance to achieve a 2nd and 3rd consolidating her competition points well below the 100 World Cup threshold.

Canadian Para-Alpine Championships, Kimberley, BC Canada (20-23 Mar 07)

Building on their end of season form both Willoughby and Farr stayed out across the pond to take part in the Candaian Nationals. This provided a final boost to their ASD point rankings with exceptional performances resulting in a 1st and 2nd for Joe Willoughby and 2nd and 3rd for Tim Farr.

World Cup Finals, Arte Thema, Italy ( 12-14 Mar 07)
Following successful results in Spain, Russel Docker travelled out to the World Cup Finals in Italy. Bad snow conditions during the season had meant a number of races had been cancelled and to support athletes like Russel the ASD point entry limit had been reduced by the IPC Race Technical Committee. Unfortunately, at the eleventh hour, a reversal of this decision was posted on the ASD website informing teams that authority did not exist to make such a change mid season. Result being that following a lengthy discussion with the IPC that Russel unfortunately had to be withdrawn from the finals. The IPC have issued assurances that they will be putting rules in place that ensure this regretable incident does not affect athletes in the future.

NORAM, Silver Star, BC, Canada (9-11 Mar 07)
Rose, Farr and Willoughby attended this weekends Silver Star races in British Columbia with fantastic results all round. Click here for details

European Cup, La Molina, Spain (9-11 Feb 07)
Following disappointing snow conditions the week before in Italy it was time for Russel Docker to step up to the plate in Spain. He did not disappoint with a top ten in the Super G (Placed 6th) and narrowly missing out by one place in the GS to come 11th. Click here for details

European Cup, Mt Baldo, Italy (Rescheduled 2-4 Feb 07)
The weekends races at Mt Baldo, Italy were again cancelled due to lack of snow so we look to La Molina, Spain in the second week of February for the likes of Russell Docker and other members of the squad on the European circuit.

World Cup, Kimberley, BC, (24-26 Jan 07)
Liz back fighting fit and finishing in a strong top 10 position in GS - 8th Place. Unfortunately, she missed a gate in the Slalom and disqualified from the 2nd run. Sean racing on his adopted home turf and course was disappointed in Super G after being blinded by snow kicked up and crashing out in the soft stuff. GS faired better with a 10th and improved on a poor first Slalom run to finish 9th. Click here for details

World Cup, Aspen, Co, (17-21 Jan 07)
First World Cup of the season and Sean waves the flag for Great Britain, while Liz rests a recent injury. Best finish so far for Sean as he keeps on improving with each race - 5th in Slalom and a 9th in Super G against a very strong line-up, beating people that were putting 3-5 seconds on him last year! Strong support from local Brits in Aspen had the flag flying all week long!

Sean says:

“Thanks to Challenge Aspen for a well ran event and Steve my buddy for the week.”

European Cup, Mt Baldo, Italy (12-13 Jan 07)
Lack of snow in Italy meant this weekends European Cup Races were rescheduled for the beginning of February. This provided an alternative (if unusual) for some members of the squad to get in some additional training by attending the 24hr Formula Charity event in Villars, Switzerland. Open to both able bodied and disabled ski teams, the BBC’s Ski Sunday were in attendance looking to capture some of the unique spectacles an event of this nature and our sport provides. This also provided an awareness and fund raising opportunity for Disability Snowsport UK, the governing charity within which the British Disabled Ski Team forms a key part.

NORAM, Huntsman Cup , Park City, Utah, USA (5-7 Jan 07)
Racing against the best skiers from the US, Canada and a number of other countries, Team GB goes from strength to strength - Sean Rose puts in World class performances. Liz miller injured in second run following an awesome 1st run where she was lying 2nd. Click here for details

NORAM, Ski Spectacular, Breckenridge, CO, USA (7-8 Dec 06)
Liz kicked off her racing programme from her base in Winter Park and travelled to Breckenridge for the annual Ski SPectacular. An impressive start to her season with creditable results in both the Slaom and Giant SLalom where she was 4th and 5th respectively.

Pre season Training Camp - Hintertux, Austria (5-18 Nov 06)
A change of venue from Tignes to Austria was enjoyed by all, even with windy and icy conditions up on the glaier it was felt that it had soo much more to offfer our athletes. Our tour operator RedPoiont Travel were great and well recommended. Click here for details
