European Cup, RollRin, Austria (4-5 Jan 08)

Further success for the team at the first gathering of 2008 in RollRin, Austria for the next IPCAS-European Cup races. Attended by Sean Rose, Joe Willoughby, Tim Farr and Craig Wiltshire, this event was confined to two technical slalom races.

Both Joe Willoughby and Sean Rose did not let the Xmas/New year festivities dampen their concentration as they proceeded to clock a further 2nd and 5th respectively in the second of the two days slalom races in Rinn.

With windy conditions and hard packed snow only Tim Farr had managed a finish in the previous day’s races achieving 16th. Having analysed their mistakes from the previous day both Joe and Sean again pulled out the stops to add further top tens to their already great starts to this season.

They both now move on to the first World Cup Races in Abtenau, Austria from 6 – 11 Jan 08 where we keep our fingers crossed that efforts put in thus far bring success at this next level of adaptive alpine racing. This is followed by a second set of World Cup races in Queyras, Hautes-Alpes, France from 12 – 19 Jan 08.

The teams successes this season have meant a move from 12th to 9th in the European Cup Nation rankings so far and an improvement in the fortunes of the British Disabled Ski Team with the number of athletes competing and achieving World Cup points.

with Joe Willoughby, Tim Farr, Talan Skeels-Piggins and newcomer Jane Sowerby all making great in-roads into reducing their race points and pressing the existing “A” squad of Sean, Liz and Russ for their dominance.
