European Cup, Pitztal, Austria (14-16 Dec 07)
A full complement of BDST athletes hit the slopes of Pitztal, Austria this weekend for the first IPC European Cup race of the season covering the technical disciplines of Slalom, Giant Slalom together with a Super G speed event.
The squad did not disappoint starting off as they had finished last season with a number of podiums to their names together with additional top-ten performances from our rising stars.
Paralympic athlete Rose led the way stepping up a gear on the back of a strong summer and pre-season training schedule delivering exceptional results with his first podium of the season, a 3rd in the Super G, followed by a 6th in the Slalom and 11th in the GS - a consistent all round performance which confirms his position as Britain’s No.1 men’s disabled alpine athlete.
Not to be outshone, the ladies also produced great results with Joe Willoughby securing further success and two podium 3rds in the GS & Super G. Newcomer Jane Sowerby showed real promise with a 4th in the speed event.
Tim Farr had produced what was thought to be an excellent Slalom finishing 14th only to be relinquished of the place following scrutineers report at the Captains meet later that evening where he was deemed to have missed a gate at the end of the course.
Other members of the squad also did their bit for team points all securing a top 20 place in a selection of the races.
Following on from last season’s very successful 14 podiums and 16 top-ten places, this first set of results is already raising the bar for the rest of the season.
