Review of the British Disabled Ski Team’s Attendance
24 March 2007 – 31st March 2007, Meribel, France
As the 2006/07 season drew to a close a number of the British Disabled Ski Team were to be seen showcasing a fantastic spectacle of Alpine Ski Racing alongside their able bodied contemporaries, including Chemmy Allcott and Finlay Mickel, at this years British Land National Championships in Meribel, all in the strongly supportive presence of their Royal Highness’ The Earl and Countess of Wessex.
Overall British Disabled Ski Champion for the event went to Sean Rose whose accomplished season has seen him notching up an impressive 3 podiums and 8 top ten finishes. Racers Rose, Docker and Skeels-Piggins were congratulated by Britain’s Alain Baxter.
It provided an ideal opportunity to profile the level of professionalism now being delivered by these talented athletes for Great Britain but also raise awareness with racers both young and old of the dynamics involved including the delights of experiencing first hand the complexities of a highly tuned sit-ski.
A number of the team, not able to attend, continued their drive for race points across the Atlantic with both Joe Willoughby achieving two additional podiums in the Super G and Giant Slalom at the Canadian Para-Alpine Championships – Kimberley BC and Liz Miller finishing in a similar vein with a 1st and 2nd in the Slalom and Giant Slalom respectively at the US Hartford Disabled Championships.
Our grateful thanks go to all sponsors, organisers, supporters and friends who have made this a truly remarkable and successful season for the British Disabled Ski Team.
