Blind Speed Skiing Double World Record Holder Kevin Alderton has inspired Kent Schools to go for gold this week. Chatham Dry Ski Slope is due to host the first Ever-Alpine Skiing competition, as part of the Kent Youth Games.
Having qualified as the UK’s first ever Dry Ski Instructor last summer, Kevin Alderton has inspired youngsters from around the county to take up the sport.
Kevin Said
“I feel really honoured that kids from around the county have been inspired by what I do, which has led them to not only have a go, but also try their hand at racing.” He continued, “Since I have worked alongside Kent County Councils Sport Development Team’s Outdoor Pursuits Disability Project, things have just gone from strength to strength.” “It’s a great thing to inspire kids to try a new sport, but with the inclusion of kids with disabilities as well this year, you never know if there is future talent that may follow my example and aspire to race for GB one day.”
Kevin Alderton first gave a presentation to three local schools last summer at Chatham Dry Ski Slope. Following a presentation on his life, his successes and his ambitions for the future, Kevin then utilised his new qualification by taking the kids onto the slope and teaching them the basics. Such was the positive feedback from both teachers and pupils alike, Kent County Council helped with funding for the youngsters to continue the sport, which has now led to their participation in the Kent Youth Games. Kevin Alderton along with the support from his new sponsors Directski.com and Mars Refuel, will launch the event on Thursday 7th June 2007 at 10am, and will assist during the racing throughout the day by giving tips, encouragement to the budding racers, and then present prizes and medals at the award ceremony at the end of the day.
Members of the press are invited to attend Chatham Dry Ski Centre, Capston Park, Chatham on Thursday 7th June 2007 from 10am onwards to cover this fantastic event.
